GOLDFISH BRINGS THEIR ELECTRIFYING SOUND TO THE LAKESIDE

Hot on the heels of a spectacular jazz concert, Old Mutual Music at the Lake brings yet another scintillating, blockbuster music event to the Durban Botanic Gardens on 21 October 2012.

Fresh from a three month tour of Europe and another Ibiza summer residency; South Africa’s proudest electronic export, Goldfish will headline this spectacular concert at the lake. Goldfish has wowed fans all over the world, performing to sold out concerts in Europe and return to South Africa to perform at only a select amount of exclusive gigs, with the Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert at the top of their bill.

Having gotten their hands on a residency to die for, the record breaking 8 time SAMA nominated electronic duo have been based in Ibiza playing the islands’ most prestigious clubs, Pacha Ibiza.

‘We’ve had an incredible year so far with some unforgettable moments on and off stage around the world… There is no better feeling than seeing a massive crowd in another country singing your music back to you…It’s just bizarre and something you never get used to. The hard work is definitely paying off’, says band member Dave Poole.

Accompanying Goldfish as the opening act will be the spellbinding, 28 year old modern day one-man folk band Jeremy Loops and Co. Equipped with multiple instruments, loop station, pedals, a capacity to sing, and beatbox he creates textured tracks that transform convention and allies the fresh with the familiar. His performances centre around crowd participation and collaborations with other skilled musicians, most frequently the lyricist M.O.Lecko, as well as Jaimie Faull on the Sax,  which brings a completely unique and positive sound to SA music.

The rise in popularity of outdoor music venues in South Africa has been phenominal, and the introduction of a series of full day music concerts at the  Botanic Gardens that appeal to young and old by Old Mutual Music at the Lake has undoubtedly been a step in the right direction and has played a major role in the rise to prominence of the Durban Botanic Gardens as the venue of choice for live music in Durban.

The Botanic Gardens have already presented live concerts of some of the most talented and accomplished musicians in South Africa. Old Mutual’s continued association with the Botanic Gardens allows them to ensure that funds are raised to maintain and improve biodiversity at this important public space.

Proceeds from the performances go towards an innovative people and plant development programme, the Garden Window Project, within the Durban Botanic Gardens and the Wildlands Conservation Trust’s Trees for Life initiative which sees community members growing trees to support their livelihoods.
